Podi-Barbi celebrated with traditional fervour

ITANAGAR, Dec 5: Podi- Barbi festival, an after harvesting festival of Adi community, particularly for the people of Mechuka, Monigong and Tato in West Siang district has been celebrated with traditional gaiety and fervor at Mopin-Solung ground here on Monday. The festival is being celebrated by the community people as thanksgiving to deity and Mother Nature for prosperous and surplus production of crops.
Attending the festival, Minister, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary, Sports and Youth Affairs Rajesh Tacho called upon the community to preserve its age old culture zealously. Greeting the people, the Minister exhorted that more books should be written on folklore and culture so that it can be preserved through literature and arts. Promotion and preservation of culture is also important to boost tourism sector, he observed. Tacho further called upon the community members to shun off bad practices and adopt good things to reform the society. "Let the festival of any community become a platform to promote communal harmony', he added.
In his address, Techi Tolu, ZPM Borum village, Naharlagun termed the language as key to preserve any cultural value. He appealed to the youths of the community to uphold age old tradition besides coping with advent of modernity.
Parliamentary Secretary, Tourism, Passang Dorjee Sona, while greeting the people informed Podi-Barbi festival has started growing bigger with Pan-Arunachal identity. Calling upon Adi community to carry forward the zeal, Sona said festival is not about marry making rather finding our root. "Getting back to root is the best way to adopt modernity" Sona added.
Earlier, Podi-Barbi Festival Celebration Committee Itanagar President Tako Taluk highlighted the objectives of the festival. A book titled, "Study of Oral Discourse through the Adi Folktales of Arunachal" written by Nasi Koje and Podi Barbi Audio Album Nineh Ge Leying were also released. The colorful traditional dances were displayed to mark the festive occasion.
Centre tells BSNL to boost telephony coverage in NE states
New Delhi, Dec 5: To ensure better telephony coverage in north-eastern states, the Centre has asked Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) to create communication infrastructure in these areas.
In an inter-departmental communique, the Home Ministry cited usage of signals from neighbouring Myanmar by people living in certain areas of the north-east and has agreed to provide all necessary help in terms of coordination with state governments to facilitate creation of infrastructure.
"Lack of adequate cellular coverage in the region has brought a sense of discontentment amongst the youth and general public who despite having means are deprived of benefits of modern means of communication.
"It has also been observed that certain sections of society utilise the spillover signals from Myanmar Telephone Service Providers in the border areas. As reach of these signals is limited, the communication in the region remains inadequate," it said.
Mobile telephony coverage in the north eastern region of the country has been deficient due to limited presence of Indian telephone service providers. An analysis of region reveals that there are communication voids in the areas along Indo-Myanmar international border, especially in the southern Arunachal Pradesh, south-eastern Nagaland, west and southern Manipur and southern Mizoram.
"It is suggested that BSNL may be asked to create communication infrastructure in the form of towers in the border areas and the funds available under Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF) can be utilised for creation of infrastructure in this region," the communique said.
There are eight north eastern states--Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Nagaland, Meghalaya and Sikkim.

CM assures to resolve BRO labour union’s grievances
ITANAGAR, Dec 5: Chief Minister Pema Khandu said that necessary steps will be taken to resolve various grievances of the BRO labourers working in Arunachal Pradesh.
The chief minister assured this when a team of BRO Labourers' Union called on him here on Monday and apprised him about various grievance of the union.
They said that they are being denied of their legitimate rights, like labour laws, constitution of BRO, right to education, laws of the land etc.
The union also apprised the chief minister about lack of proper accommodation and medical facilities for the labourers, lack of social security and educational facilities for the children of labourers as they have to work in remote areas.
Further, the BRO labourers are not covered under any well defined policy for promotion and regularization of their services and also they were denied of any holiday leaves and casual leaves as enjoyed by labourers working under Arunachal government.
The union appealed to the Chief Minister to intervene and take up the matter with the central government so that necessary directions may be issued to the Director General, Border Roads Organization for providing benefits to BRO labourers as per the law.
Also, they sought the intervention of the chief minister to enable all labourers to be registered under 'Arunachal Pradesh Building & Other Construction Workers Welfare Board' to avail the social security schemes provided under the boards act.
The Chief Minister assured to take up the matter with the union Ministry of Labour and Employment.
Kempi receives ‘Silver Star Award’ from President
ITANAGAR, Dec 5: Bharat Scouts & Guides (BSG) state headquarters leader trainer (Guide) ASTC Kempi Pakam received the prestigious 'Silver Star Award' from President Pranab Mukherjee in a glittering function at Darbar Hall of Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi on December 5.
Kempi was honored with Silver Star Award for her meritorious service through Bharat Scouts and Guides to the Nation and also her outstanding contribution to the Guiding movement in the state and the region.
She is the first Arunachalee to receive the prestigious award.
Kempi has been an excellent trainer and extending her valuable services to the state and the country. She has conducted and assisted various training programmes for Guides in and outside Arunachal Pradesh.
She rendered her services as a Member of the Service Team of Yamaguchi in the 23rd World Scout Jamboree in Japan in 2015.
Kaso and PWD officials inspect sector roads
ITANAGAR, Dec 5: Itanagar MLA cum Parliamentary Secretary Urban Development, Housing, Town planning and ULB Techi Kaso on Monday carried out inspection of the sector roads and other infrastructure in Naharlagun township with the officials of PWD.
The team of officials Included Chief Engineer (PWD) Western Zone Katung Wahge, Superintending engineer Capital circle cum coordination Techi Ratu, Executive engineer Naharlagun division Techi Nabo among others.
"The works undertaken in the different parts of colony and sector road was done as per the fund received from time to time. I have tried my level best to utilise all the fund received so far and did not allow any miss-utilisation of fund," Kaso said informing that the department receives hardly 10 crores for maintenance of the Capital Complex road on yearly basis for more than 999kms stretch of road.
The parliamentary secretary further informed that he has directed the officials to expedite the process for NIT and other approval for the bridge over Pachin river, that would connect Naharlagun with District Headquarters Yupia, so that work can be started immediately.
Also speaking, SE Ratu Techi said that 90percent of road in Naharlagun township have been completed and the one's left will be taken up when the funds are received.
New PS building inaugurated

DAPORIJO, Dec 5: New building of Daporijo Police Station was inaugurated by Minister for RD & Panchayat Raj Tanga Byaling here Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, Byaling briefed on role of Police and commended Daporijo Police for a decline in crime rate in the district in the past couples of years under SP Taru Gusar.
Local MLA and Parliamentary Secretary (Art and Culture) Dikto Yekar extended his full cooperation and support to the police department and also assured to provide furniture for the new police station building.
SP Gusar also highlighted the problem faced by the police department due to insufficient infrastructure.

BJP clarifies misconception
ITANAGAR, Dec 05: The State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has clarifies the misconception among some sections of the people in Arunachal Pradesh that the 25th December, which has been declared as Good Governance Day by NDA government since 2014 to commemorate the birthday of Atal Behari Vajpayiee, is going to usurp the Christmas Day celebration, which is a gazetted national holiday.
As Vajpayee championed transparency and accountability in governance throughout his public life,
it was only apt to declare his birthday as good governance day to reiterate the vision and values of the former prime minister', the state BJP said in a release.
Highlighting the main objectives of good governance day, the party said that the 25th December will continue to remain as Christmas day for the follower of Christian faith across the country and in Arunachal Pradesh. "It is just a coincidence that the birthday of Bharat Ratna Atal Behari Vajpayee also falls on the same auspicious day as that of Jesus Christ. There is no reason for apprehension that 25th December will be a working day on account of Good Governance Day celebration," the party said.
Pario flags off ambulances
PALIN, Dec 5: PHED, WS and Disaster Management Minister Takam Pario, flagged off two numbers of ambulances for the medical department of Palin recently. The ambulances would help in transporting patients from interior places to 50 bedded hospital at Palin and also from Palin to Itanagar on emergency cases.
The flag off was done in presence of Kra-Daadi DC Habung Donyi, i/c DMO Dr. Magong Pangkam and Gaon Buras of the district.
Later, All Palin Area Gaon Bura Association put forth their basic grievances to the minister. The demands include timely disbursement of their honorarium and also its enhancement, construction of a conference hall for the Gaon Buras at district level and also construction of a kebang house for the day to day functioning of the Gaon Buras.
Replying to the association, Pario informed about the annual sanctioning of the honorarium and that the honorariums are disbursed accordingly to the fund sanctioned.
Also speaking, DC Kra-Daadi Habung Donyi said that the district already has a Kebang house and thus another such infrastructure was not required. He, however, felt the need for washroom facility in the Kebang house. (DIPRO)
Great Cormorants flock at D Ering sanctuary

PASIGHAT, Dec 5: Like previous years, migratory birds have started arriving at Daying Ering Memorial Wildlife Sanctuary (WLS) giving a lively look to the water bodies and wetlands.
The water bodies of the sanctuary and adjoining sites of mighty Siang river have come alive in recent days with several species of migratory aquatic birds including Great Cormonant (Phalacrocorax carbo), which is attracting special attention of the wildlife officials and the nature lovers. They have also observed arrival of Ruddy Shelduck (Tadorna ferruginea) while, many other colourful water birds were spotted in the water bodies of Daying Ering Wildlife Sanctuary since late November. However, the wildlife officials and nature lovers annually witness emergence of more winged visitors to the numerous water bodies during the month of January and early February each year.
Ornithologist said that many avian species including aquatic birds travelled thousands of kilometers from their summer roosts, which are beginning to freeze and where food has become scarce at this time of the year.
It may be mentioned here that a large number of researchers, students and tourists from different parts of the country and abroad come to the wildlife sanctuary every year to see the rich birdlife during the winter season. Located at about 16 km South-East from historical Pasighat town, the sanctuary is a set of small and medium islands as tributaries of mighty Siang and Sibiya rivers flowing down from the northern hill site providing a model habitat of wildlife to thrive on.
It is considered as a factor in restoring the ecological balance of the region besides providing safety and security to the wild lives of Dibru Saikhuwa Sanctuary (across mighty Siang) and Poba Reserve Forest along the Assam-Arunachal boundary.
Daying Ering Wildlife Sanctuary covers an area of 190 sq kms. The rich flora and fauna of the wildlife sanctuary provides suitable habitat to mammalian species including different species such as deer, wild boar, wild buffalo, leopard and elephants besides reptiles. It is also home to some globally threatened avian species like the endangered vultures and Bengal Florican (Houbaropsis bengalensis).
The Wildlife sanctuary, which once had been bearing the brunt of encroachment and poaching activities, has reportedly developed during the last four years. The wildlife department with the help of Adi Baane Kebang and Mising Students Union of bordering Assam has chalked out strategies to protect the wildlife thriving in the sanctuary and nearby forest area. Moreover, some Eco Development Committees (EDCs) have been constituted involving local Gaon Burhas and PRI members of the fringe villages, who are assisting the department for guarding the sanctuary.
AAPBSU condemns land encroachment by Assam forest officials
ITANAGAR, Dec 5: All Arunachal Pradesh Border Students' Union (AAPBSU) has strongly condemned the reported encroachment of Arunachal land at Bogoli and Denka under Gumto circle of Papum Pare district by Assam on December 3.
In a release, AAPBSU alleged that Assam Forest Department officials along with its battalion entered into almost 2 km within the territory of Arunachal Pradesh and physically assaulted GB Debia Kojum and destroyed the local road with JCB beyond repairable in violation of Supreme Court order to maintain status quo along Arunachal-Assam till it (SC) delivers its verdict on the decades-old inter-state boundary issue.
The union strongly demanded the state Government to take immediate and serious steps against the assaulter(s) of the GB and book the culprits under appropriate section of law so that such incident do not recur.
Expressing grave concern over repeated incidents of encroachment of Arunachal land by Assam, the union strongly appealed to the CM Pema Khandu led PPA government to amicably settle the boundary issue as both the Assam and Arunachal Pradesh governments are working under the banner of NEDA.
The State Government must initiate and take up the boundary issues with its Assam counterpart and take stern action against illegal encroachment, AAPBSU said.
It also appealed to the state government to ensure safety and security of people living in boundary areas.
World Soil Day celebrated with awareness progs on soil health
ITANAGAR, Dec 5: The World Soil Day was celebrated with awareness programmes on soil health in various districts of the state on Monday.
At Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in Lower Dibang Valley district, altogether 26 farmers from Abali and Balek village besides, members of Rayang Farmer's Club took part in the awareness programme wherein, Senior Scientist, Dr. T J Ramesha highlighted about the importance of soil and its ill effects in agriculture. SMS (Agronomy), M Panggama also imparted training on soil sampling and procedure of filling soil health card. The programme was organized to create awareness among the farming communities about the importance of soil and need for its preservation on the occasion of World Soil Day.
In Anjaw, KVK also organized an awareness programme on Soil Health and Soil Health Cards at Metengliang and Chameliang.
SMS (Agronomy), Khoisnam Naveen informed the farmers on how to take the soil sample for future analysis as retesting of soil will be done at every three years of interval to update the current soil status. Later, a field demonstration was also held at Metengliang.
KVK Anjaw Programme Coordinator, Dr. Manish Kanwat also stressed the need and use of Soil Health Card for formulation of better production strategy.
At Pasighat, KVK, East Siang and College of Horticulture & Forestry (CHF), Central Agricultural University, Pasighat organized World Soil Health Day and Rabi Sammelan along with farmers-scientists interaction programme on Soil Health Management at Jampani village, a major vegetable growing area of the district.
Dean CHF, Dr. L. Wangchu advised the KVK scientists and faculties of CHF to concentrate on organic based farmer-friendly technologies. He also distributed soil health cards, fish feed and vegetable seeds of brinjal, tomato, onion and cucurbits to progressive farmers of Jampani and Sille village.
The Deputy Directors (HQs), Education and Training of Agriculture Department collectively celebrated World Soil Day at the APMC Complex, Pasighat clubbing with "Kishan Ghosti" under ATMA.
ADO Oni Panyang apprised the participants that East Siang all set to achieve the target of 1800 soil samples get tested for issue of soil health cards by March 2017.
Prominent farmer Jokut Modi, Toggul Pertin DDA training, Okang Tamuk, DDA, education GTC also spoke on the occasion. Similar programmes were also held at Gori Village in West Siang, Deomali in Tirap and Kumari Kochari village in Namsai.
Podi Barbi festival celebrated with traditional fervor
AALO, Dec 5: The Adi community of Mechuka Sub-division celebrated their popular festival, Podi Barbi with traditional fanfare and gaiety at Gumin Kiin here on Monday.
Greeting the people on the occasion, Aalo East MLA and APEDA Chairman, Jarka Gamlin said that festival and festivities represent our culture and give us a distinct identity.
He further stressed on the need to preserve one's unique culture and identity lest the young generation forgets it.
While responding to a memorandum pertaining to construction of permanent office and Dere for Podi Barbi Committee at Lik Putu, the MLA assured to do it in the financial year 2017-18. He also released a new audio album 'Nineh Geh Leying' on the occasion.
West Siang GWS Vice President, Karsen Lollen and Rtd. APCS, Minjom Bagra in their addresses said that all festivals are alike and people from all communities irrespective of caste and community should participate in the celebrations.
Festival organizing president, Azen Pujen and chief advisor, Komi Rida also spelt out the significance and mythological aspects of the Podi Barbi festival.

AACWA appeals for ensuring security of contractors
ITANAGAR, Dec 05: All Arunachal Contractor's Welfare Association (AACWA) appealed for ensuring safety and security of the contractors and engineers engaged in road construction works in Tirap, Longding and Changlang districts.
Commending police and some local NGOs for rescuing two site engineers engaged in road construction works in remote Longding district, who were allegedly kidnapped by militant group(s) on November 28, AACWA in a release stated that "if the local officers are not secured in their own places then how can it be possible for others to execute works in those areas.
"Developmental activities should not be disturbed by the any groups whether it is legal or illegal groups," the contractors' association said, appealed to the public of the districts to extend support to the contractors for smooth execution of road construction works.
Meanwhile, AACWA urged the state government to initiate for shifting of all central departments functioning from camp offices in Guwahati, Tezpur and Lakhimpur in Assam to Capital Complex. It also urged the state government to pursue with central government that developmental works of the state should be allowed only to state engineering departments as the state has now sufficient numbers of eligible contractors who can execute projects worth multi-crores.

Tukum wins boys' single U-15 title
ITANAGAR, Dec 5: Promising badminton player Laa Tukum of Arunachal Pradesh won the boys' single under 15 title in the All India Sub-Junior Badminton Ranking Tournament, 2016 at Karnail Singh Badminton Stadium, New Delhi on Monday.
Tukum defeated Bidyasagar Salam of Manipur in straight 21-17, 21-13 sets in the final to win the title and gold medal.
Earlier, Tukum defeated Adhee Gupta of Maharashtra (21-19, 21-14), Sidhanth Gupta of Tamil Nadu (21-11, 10-21, 21-13), Ishaan Bhatnagar of Chattishgarh (11-21, 21-16, 21-19), Gautam Walia of Haryana (21-16, 21-16), Siddharttha Mishra of Uttar Pradesh (21-19, 21-16) to reach the final.
Tukum is currently ranked 5th in boys' single under-15 all India ranking.

Darka FC lifts 2nd Dube Rike Ete Memorial Football Trophy
AALO, Dec 5: Darka FC lifted the 2nd Dube Rike Ete Memorial Football Trophy defeating Jummi Combat Bene FC 3-1 in the final at General Football Ground here on Monday.
Darka FC started on an attacking note and pumped in three consecutive goals in the first half to take an unassailable lead.
The Jummi Combat Bene made all out effort to restore parity but failed to score as goalkeeper of Darka foiled all attempts.
The winner walked away with cash prize of Rs.1 lakh with the coveted trophy while the runners up was awarded Rs.50, 000 with trophy.
Dodam Loyi was adjudged the Best Player and Goalkeeper and Gemar Padu of Kabu FC and Joken Ete of Jummi Combat FC were adjudged the best scorers.

Christina ends medal drought in women's weightlifting
ITANAGAR, Dec 05: Christina Tayeng ended Arunachal's medal drought in women's weightlifting by winning a bronze in the 12th Youth National Weightlifting Championship being held in Bhubaneswar Odisha.
She won the bronze medal in women section after a gap of four years since compatriot Takio Yana had won silver medal for the country in Asiad in Thailand and Cape Town (South Africa) in Commonwealth Youth Weightlifting Championship in 2012.
Taking part in the girls' 69 Kg category, Christina won the bronze in Snatch lifting 63 Kg. She lifted a total weight of 143 kg (snatch-63+ clean and jerk-80kg).
Water supply to get affected
ITANAGAR, Dec 5: Water supply in Itanagar will be affected on Dec 6 and 7.
AE, PHE&WS Itanagar sub-division in a release informed that due to repair works in Poma water supply line on Dec 6 and 7, areas except Raj Bhawan area, A&B sector, C-sector and Microwave tank area will have no water supply.
Meanwhile, the department has appealed to the people to bear with the inconvenience.
Benefit under NPS
ITANAGAR, Dec 5: The state government has adopted the New Defined Contributory Pension System known as National Pension System (NPS) for the employees appointed on or after January 1st, 2008.
In a notification issued by the Commissioner Finance Ashish Kundra , it stated 'the orders will be applicable to those state government employees who joined the government service on or after January 1st, 2008 and are covered by NPS and will take effect from the same date i.e. 01/01/2008."
" The issue of grant of Gratuity in respect of Government employees covered by the NPS has been under consideration of the government. It has been decided that the government employees covered under NPS shall be eligible for benefits of " Retirement Gratuity and Death Gratuity on the same terms and conditions , as are applicable to employees covered by Central Civil Service(Pension) Rule 1972" it added.
It further stated that retirement gratuity and death gratuity in respect of employees covered under NPS shall be settled by the Director of Audit and Pension Government of Arunachal Pradesh.
Training on piggery conducted
ITANAGAR, Dec 5: In all, 40 numbers of participants including farmers, farmwomen and rural youths attended ICAR, KVK Anjaw and Manyu Welfare Society, a local NGO, organized a day-long training on 'Piggery production and its disease prevention and control measures' at Chameliang Anjaw on Saturday last.
During the programme, KVK Anjaw, SMS Animal Science, Dr. Tilling Tayo briefed the participants regarding prevention and control measure of the common diseases in pigs such as, iron deficiency disease, parasitic infestation, mineral and vitamin deficiency, swine fever and FMD. He further asked the farmers to go for early treatment instead of waiting for weeks as delay in treatment often results in poor response to drugs.

Arrest culprit/s involved in the road and bridge damage: Forum
ITANAGAR, Dec 5: The 21-Koloriang (AC) Native Peoples' Forum has sought immediate arrest of the culprits involved in the damage of Pongrong to Kush road and Panyu Bridge on Nov 28 last.
The motive behind it was to block ZPC Kurung Kumey Sangha Tagik from participating in no confidence motion moved against him but local commuters, government staffs, vehicle carrying patients, business transporters and defence personnel were the ultimate sufferers, it said in its seven days ultimatum served to the Kurung Kumey DC.
The forum has alleged Koloriang MLA cum parliamentary secretary home Pani Taram of conspiring the whole episode.
Teachers induction prog commences
ITANAGAR, Dec 05: Teachers induction training programme for SSA teachers from various schools in West Kameng and Tawang commenced at DIET, Dirang on Monday.
On the inaugural function, SK Dey, (senior lecturer) PSTE in charge of the DIET highlighted the objectives of the 30 days training programme and its importance.
Resource person of the programme Padi Tylang (lecturer), started the sessions with the topic "Relevance of psychology for the elementary teachers education."
Road safety awareness campaign conducted
ITANAGAR, Dec 05: A road safety awareness campaign was conducted by Traffic Cell PHQ at Govt Middle School, Chimpu-I Itanagar on Monday. SI AU Ansari along with his team elucidated safety tips to students including how to cross road, how to board on and travel in vehicles and significance of road signs etc. The hand signal demonstration and distribution of pamphlets were also carried out. Altogether 130 students attended the programe.
Village Committee meeting held
ITANAGAR, Dec 5: In a meeting of the Upper Jollang Village Committee, Itanagar held under the chairmanship of Upper Jollang Village complex development chairman, Dare Papong on Saturday last, a six-point resolution was passed. It was decided that any kind of boundary or land encroachment issue should be solved by the village committee and no person should file any kind of dispute case with the court or police without the knowledge of the village committee. Further, it was also decided in the meeting that no land owners in the village should sell their land without informing the village committee.
MOVCD launched in Papum Pare
YUPIA, Dec 5: Papum Pare DC Tai Kaye launched MOVCD (Mission Organic Value Chain Development) -a Govt. of India in the presence of officers and staffs of Agriculture, Veterinary, Horticulture and service provider-Oppu Engineering and Agro Service here on Monday.
A meeting was conducted at DC's Conference Hall in this regard with all District Implementing Committees to discuss on various implications for implementation of MOVCD.
DC called upon the implementing agency to come up with schemes which are tangible and beneficial for the farmers. He also urged he agency to work in close coordination with district administration and all allied departments and ensure to give prior information to all concerned admin officers of the area.
MOVCD- NER aims to develop an integrated farm -to- fork value chain for farmers of North eastern region providing direct access to national and international market for their value added premium products.
Among others who attended the meeting were Dy Director Agriculture, DVO, HDO, ADOs, AFAs and staffs of M/S Oppu Engineering and Agro Service. (DIPRO)
Gorkhas celebrate Ramailo Tihar
ITANAGAR, Dec 4: Celebrating the culmination of series of Tihar festivals, the Gorkha community of Capital Complex on Sunday celebrated 'Ramailo Tihar 2016 The Festival of Gorkha' here at Nyokum Lapang ground.
The event was organized by the All Arunachal Pradesh Gorkha Youth Welfare Society (AAPGYWS) in collaboration with All Arunachal Gorkha Welfare Society with the theme 'Loss of culture, loss of identity'.
Tihar is a five-day long festival of the Gorkha community which begins with worshiping to goddess Laxmi. The festival which signifies the festival of lights is also known as Diwali or Durga Puja by other communities of the nation. The festival is considered to be of great importance by the community as it shows reverence to not just the humans and gods but also to the animals like crows, cows, and dogs.
Home minister Kumar Waii and Tezu MLA Mohesh Chai attended the celebration.
The organizer in its one point memorandum to the visiting guests appealed for identifying an area for construction of a Durga Mandir within Capital Complex so that the community will not have to go to Assam for offering their prayers and to perform rituals. Waii later in his address accepted the memorandum and assured to look into the matter.
Cultural extravaganza marked the celebration wherein artist from here and other states enthralled the gathering with their performance. The main attractions for the event were Dance India Dance Little Master's first runners' up Om Chettry, North East Got Talent's first runners' up G-7 Loyal Dance Group, Gorha Talent Show 2016 first runners' up, Indian Idol participant Taraveer Limbu and others.

Appreciable step
The teacher absentee in interior areas is the biggest hurdle towards giving quality education to the children. Arunachal has been battling this serious problem for the last many years and are yet to find solution to it. Calls for stringent action against such erring teachers are being repeatedly made by Panchayat leaders and NGOs. However action has been fewer and less as it is considered that most of these erring officials have the blessing of powerful people.

Give enough time for preparation
Dear Editor,
Through the column of your esteemed daily I would like to request APPSC to notify
dates of various exams to be conducted by them 45 days before in advance. The examination
conducting bodies like UPSC, SSC, RBI, SBI, IBPS etc gives the tentative dates of
exams, form-
Many aspiring candidates prepare for exams notified by the APPSC while doing jobs or some course. So they have to manage their time and also holidays to prepare for such exams. So, notifying exam date 25 days or 1 month before is not enough. The notification published in newspaper doesn’t reach faraway places of the state on time. Sometimes it is delayed even by week due to road blocks etc. Notification is usually uploaded in website after 2 days; moreover net connection is not always good in many parts of the region. So, it is my humble request to the APPSC, to please notify the exam dates and admit card release date of any exam to be conducted by them 45 days before the date of exam so that every candidate get fair chance.

To set right the actual geographical realities
Dear Editor,
I would like to request you to kindly publish this letter in your "Readers Forum" section. This is to point out an erroneous assertion in the story "Lali Modi Exploration Team Flagged In At Midpu" which was recently published in your daily.
The trek across the Lali Ane mountain is certainly commendable and worthy of emulation.
It is an important mountain from the Nyishi people's cultural point of view. One
hopes that it does become a choice destination for green, environment-
The fact of the matter is that all the highest peaks of the state, barring a few,
fall within Nyishi areas, i.e, East Kameng, Kurung Kumey and Kra Daadi districts,
including Kangto, the highest peak of the state at 7000 metre plus elevation in East
Kameng. Other significant peaks include Mt. Chomo, Mt. Nyegi Kansang, Takpa Shiri,
Tui Kangri (all 6000 metres plus). These are their better known nomenclatures although
the locals have their own names for them. Then there are numerous other peaks above
6000 metres, 5000 metres and 4000 metres in these districts, running along the Great
Himalayan range and in the ridges perpendicular to them Even in terms of 'free standing
mountains', there are higher peaks, namely Mt. Bada ( between Chayangtajo, East Kameng
and Sarli, Kurung Kumey) and Mt. Kongto-
One indication of the height of the mountains in these districts is the fact that all the rivers flowing therein, major or otherwise, including Kameng, Kurung, Kumey are derived from the Indian side of the border unlike other major rivers of the state like the Subansiri, Siang, Dibang and Lohit whose source lie either entirely or partially on the Tibetan Plateau and which flow into the state along relatively low lying gorges/valleys.
Thus, while wishing the best for the recently traversed trek along a culturally significant mountain, this letter is to set right actual geographical realities.
